Empowering The Powerless

With this vision in mind, EIL – INDIA has specially prepared a programme in collaboration with “Scopeplus”, an NGO working towards empowering the lives of people who do not have the means of sustaining a livelihood.

The programme aims at bringing about awareness amongst such people, by giving them access to basic educational and vocational skills, resulting in the generation of income for themselves.

The workshops are held in and around the capital city of Delhi at various venues such as slums, municipal schools and even in the famous prison “Tihar Ashram”, the largest complex of prisons in South Asia.

Tihar is maintained as a Correctional Institution. Its main objective is to convert its inmates into normal members of the society by providing them with useful skills, education and rules in order to improve their self-esteem and strengthen their desire to improve. Items manufactured by the inmates bear the brand TIHAR.

Participants will undertake voluntary work at the various centres supported by the program which involves :-

  • Promoting literacy in slums, prisons, etc
  • Remedial educational coaching for poor children and school drop outs
  • Empowering women with literacy skills, vocational training and legal knowledge
  • Promoting self reliance through discussions and seminars
  • Spreading awareness about preventive medicine, especially among women and girl-children
